Dutch ceramics
Overview of Dutch ceramics
The Netherlands has a long tradition of ceramics. The most famous product is Delftware, the Dutch answer to Chinese porcelain, that was imported in large number by trading companies like the VOC. This, often blue and white, form of earthenware, is still being made by many smaller factories throughout the Netherlands. A more recent highlight is the production of what is called Goudaware. Not all made in Gouda, but named after the very specific tinglazed earthenware made famous by Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland in the art nouveau period.
